ÉVORA
The city of Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage site, retains a medieval
flavour within its walls and in the mansions and monuments which attest
the grandeur of the 16th century Court. But the whole region of Évora,
together with the historical area surrounding the city, is rich with objects
from the past, from pre-historic remains to the Manueline buildings which
mark the centuries of the discoveries.
Specifically, Évora, is to be found at the very heart of Alentejo
province, a Mediterranean region of gently undulating wheat fields, CORKOAK
GROVES, vineyards and olive groves. Essencial rural, the Évora region
has environmental conditions which are unique in Europe - it is so well
preserved, ecologically speaking, that it is an open invitation to enjoy
nature, to go for long walks, to hunt, to fish and for bird-watching in
its fields, rivers and lakes. |
