BEJA - Announced from afar by its
Torre de Menagem ( donjon ) , the highest in the Alentejo. Firm in its
path, faithful to its history, wise in its ventures. Because the vicissitudes
of history have distroyed much of its heritage, it treats with loving care
everything that it has. So it is a pleasure to remember the Pax Julia when
close to the Porta de Évora or Porta de Avis, almost unique remnants
of the splendour experienced in the times of the Roman Empire.
Beja is also famous for the ancestral tastes of sweetmeats made from
convent recipes.
In the suburbs (30km from Quinta do Derramado) exists a very modern military airport that will be oppened as a commercial airport (passengers and cargo) in a near future.
